Make vs Zapier pricing: credits, tasks and three workloads
Make bills every module run, trigger checks included. Zapier bills successful actions only. Three workloads priced from each vendor's pricing page on September 23, 2026.
The short answer
Make and Zapier price the same automation in different units. Make counts credits: by default one module run is one credit, and a trigger module uses one credit every time it checks for new data. Zapier counts tasks: only successful action steps use tasks, and its help center says "Zap triggers never use tasks".
For a very small workload, Zapier's free plan can cost $0. In the three workloads we priced below, from 1,000 items a month, Make's credit tiers cost less than Zapier's task tiers.
Prices were read in a browser on make.com/en/pricing and zapier.com/pricing on September 23, 2026, in US dollars. StackOnSale has not tested either product.
How each one counts
Make: "An operation is a single module run to process data or check for new data." By default, one operation uses one credit. A trigger module runs once per check, whatever the number of items it returns, so a scenario that checks every 15 minutes uses 96 credits a day before it processes anything. The modules after the trigger run once per item. Some AI and advanced apps use a variable number of credits.
Zapier: "A task is any successful action that runs in Zapier." Its help center says triggers never use tasks, and that polling for new trigger events never does either. Zapier's built-in tools, including Formatter, Paths, Filters, Delay and Looping, use 0 tasks. AI steps and a few tools use more than one task per step; Zapier lists them on its task usage rates page.
So the same automation can use more Make credits than Zapier tasks, because of the trigger checks. The price per unit is what closes the gap: Make's units cost much less.
Make prices by credit tier
Make sets the price by the number of credits you buy each month. The table shows three of the tiers on its slider. Annual billing is labelled "Save 15% or more".

Zapier prices by task tier
Zapier sets the price by the number of tasks a month. Annual billing is labelled "Save 33%". The Free plan includes 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps only, meaning one trigger and one action. Multi-step Zaps, premium apps and webhooks start on Professional. Team adds 25 users, shared Zaps and SAML SSO, and starts at 2,000 tasks.

Three workloads, priced
The table prices three workloads on each vendor's cheapest plan that covers them. Each workload uses a trigger that checks for new items every 15 minutes: 2,880 checks in a 30-day month, so 2,880 Make credits. Each action is a standard step: one Make credit or one Zapier task. Make Core and Zapier Professional do not include the same features, so check the limits below before you decide on price alone.

Free plans and what happens when you run out
Make Free: 1,000 credits a month, 2 active scenarios, a 15-minute minimum interval between runs, a 5-minute maximum run time and 5 MB files. Paid Make plans lift those to unlimited active scenarios, 1-minute intervals and 40-minute runs.
Zapier Free: 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps. Anything with more than one action needs Professional.
When you run out, Make lets you upgrade, buy extra credits or turn on automatic purchase of extra credits. Zapier moves paid plans to pay-per-task billing for the rest of the billing period, so Zaps keep running. Zapier's help center says the pay-per-task rate "depends on your plan and billing cycle type" and is shown in your billing settings.
What we could not verify
Zapier's pay-per-task rate, which is shown only inside an account. The price of Make's extra credits. Whether Zapier bills trigger steps: its rates page lists "trigger and action steps" at 1 task per step, while its help center says "Zap triggers never use tasks". We counted actions only; if Zapier billed triggers, add one task per item to the Zapier column. Prices between the tiers we read, and whether either annual price holds at renewal.

Is Make or Zapier cheaper?
In the workloads we priced from 1,000 items a month, Make was cheaper: 1,000 items with 4 actions each is $9 a month on Make Core and $89 a month on Zapier Professional, both billed annually. For 100 single-action items a month, Zapier's free plan costs $0. Read September 23, 2026.
Do Zapier triggers use tasks?
Zapier's help center says Zap triggers never use tasks, and polling for new trigger events does not either. Built-in tools such as Filters, Formatter and Paths use 0 tasks.

Yes. Make counts each trigger check as one operation, which uses one credit by default, whatever the number of items returned. A check every 15 minutes is 2,880 credits in a 30-day month.
